Mrs Banks Re cap

Mrs Banks-Re Cap

In today's lesson, as it was the first lesson back from Easter, we had a recap on TV analysis on the areas that some of us found difficult and others that some of us found more understandable. We also went through the areas that we will be looking at in the analysis like camera, sound, mise-en-scene and editing, just to jog our memory and start thinking about the best way to analyse the different scenes that we've been shown.

We looked at a clip from an American TV drama series and tried to link it to the representation of ethnicity. We looked at Camera, Editing, Mise-en-scene and Sound and how we could link it to ethnicity and explain why the director and producer chose to include these different aspects.

Evaluation question 7.

Looking back at my preliminary task, I feel that I have experienced and gained a lot more knowledge in the production of my main task compared to my preliminary task.

My preliminary task challenged continuity, the 180-degree rule, match on action and the rule of thirds were all concepts that I was still getting the basics of. Having the opportunity to explore different ways in which I can use those conventions meant that my main task was much more professional, saved time and gave me the experience to apply it to more projects.

In my preliminary task, I used the editing software for the first time which meant that it took much longer to work and perfect the task. Having that past experience allowed my to extend it and apply it to my main task which saved time and allowed me to make it look more professional.

My preliminary task was my first time using camera shots as well, as a result, the camera angles and shots were not very still and accurate leading to dodgy shots and tilted camera angles. With my main task, I knew more about shots and angles which enabled me to shoot much more professional shots and keep the camera in the correct shot for longer periods of time.

Evaluation questions

Course work Evaluation Questions

Now that I have finished my coursework and submitted it for marking I can focus on the evaluation and look back on how I could have improved it. There are seven evaluation questions that I am going to be answering in my blog. I will assign one question per blog in order to go into detail in each of them and fully answer the questions. In this blog I will briefly describe how I could answer the questions. The seven questions that I will be answering are as follows:

    1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real           media products?

  • I would answer this by giving examples of a form or convention that I used in my production and describe why I chose to use them.

    2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

  • I would start off by explaining why certain characters and costumes were chosen and also why certain people were picked to play different parts.
    3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

  • I would answer this by stating which producers and directors I feel would want to look at my product and produce it, as well as film companies, deciding whether my chosen genre is right for different companies to choose.
    4. Who would be the target audience for your media product?

  • I would start by explaining the type of audience I was looking for and who the opening scene is aimed at.
    5. How do you attract/address your audience?

  • I would answer this by looking at what would be the best form to attract the audience in watching my product.
    6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

  • I would begin by identifying the different technologies and software that I used while making the product.
    7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progress from               it to the full product?

  • I would answer this by stating the different areas that I feel i have improved upon since filming the preliminary, from camera to editing.

Task Evaluation

I have learnt what the evaluation questions are for my main task and how to lay them out in my blog properly. The evaluation questions are as follows:

  • In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms or conventions of real media products?
  • How does your media product represent particular social groups?
  • What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
  • Who would be the audience for your media product?
  • How did you attract/address your audience?
  • What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
  • Looking back on your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I will answer these questions in detail in my coming blogs and evaluate how well I think I did overall with my finalised main task.

Title ideas continued

In today's lesson we came up with some more title ideas that we could use for our opening sequence. We also ended up changing the font of our titles because we felt that it didn't suit the genre of our opening scene enough. We also came to a final conclusion for the name of our opening scene, which was Downfall. We also decided to book the next double lesson as time to start filming our opening scene.  Because we changed certain aspects of our story line late on, we still needed to finish the end part of the scene, which we ended up finalising at the end of the lesson. We also finalised our title ideas and started thinking about animation effects and how we could make the titles appear and disappear in way that reflects the genre that we went for in our opening scene.

Title ideas

Opening sequence- title ideas

In today's lesson my group brainstormed ideas for the title lines that we could use in out opening scene. By the end of the lesson we managed to have several ideas for what we could put down for the title, for example Producer, director, camera man, editing and script were just some of the roles we used in the titles. We had not moved onto how we would apply them to the opening scene and make it work, but we managed to apply a different font and sort out the correct size that would make the title stand out and suit the genre of our opening scene.

We also had time to briefly start thinking of a name for our opening sequence, there were quite a lot of ideas that we narrowed down to three, which we will finalise next lesson. We also have drawn up a timetable for ourselves of when we have time to start filming which will hopefully help us get organised and start filming soon.
